Sunny greetings from Catalina!

We are here and having a CIMI sunshine blast! Also, I wanted to let you know Catalina Island is at the lowest level of alert for the earthquake situation that has occurred this morning.
The excellent team here at CIMI has advised all chaparones (there are 4 schools here)
and all chaparones, including myself, feel comfortable continuing with our schedule today. Our students will do a shorter version of the snorkel, with the remaining day being labs! All is fine and we are safe!! Your children were excellent on the bus ride over and surviving their first night sleeping in the dorms. Some students hiked this morning as it is a beautiful day! We will arrive back home tomorrow night and look to meet you then! Thank you for letting your child take this wonderful trip. Everyone is safe, learning, and just having a great time. We are actively staying in touch with the CIMI Team and they are doing a great job providing our every need! See you soon!

Staffing for next year!

I have just received good news regarding our staffing for next year 2010-2011. Tentatively, here are the projections: 4 Kinder classrooms~3 First Grade classrooms~3 Second Grade classrooms~3 Third Grade classrooms~3 Fourth Grade classrooms~3 Fifth Grade classrooms~3 Sixth Grade classrooms. With the increase of classrooms this will affect our Special Areas allowing us to increase one part time Special Area classroom to a full time class.
I am currently arranging for an automated phone survey to come directly to all D.T. homes.
You will be asked one question "Which Special Area would you like to see increased to a full time position?" Currently, as you know, Music, Art, Library and Computers are all part time positions. Please follow the prompt on the survey to submit your choice.
School Council will be reviewing the phone survey results along with the Parent Survey taken during Parent~Teacher Conferences. We are counting on 100% participation for the most accurate information. Thank you for providing this feedback!!!
